Role models can play a big role in a high school athlete’s life. More than just playing the game, they can also influence who the athlete will become away from the game. Georgina Grandos is a senior at Southeast High School. She has people that she looks up to but has one person that has had a bigger impact.
“My older brother David is the biggest role model for me,” she said. “He always pushes me to succeed and become a better athlete, and he has always been a hard worker and has pushed himself to greatness which I have come to admire so much. Also, my family and coaches motivate me to work hard everyday.”
As a student at Southeast, Grandos is a member of the volleyball and powerlifting teams. She also serves as a commissioner for the Link Crew club.
Georgina appreciates the teammates that she competes alongside. She knows that they work hard and play a huge role in her success and the team’s success.
“Neveah is hands down my favorite person to compete with at practice,” she said. “Even though I have more experience, she is never afraid of some competition against me. Alexia McMullen is an under-appreciated player, she has put in a lot of work to be the best player in her position but is always willing to put in more work.”
There has been a lot of work and time that Grandos has invested so that she can be at her best anytime she steps on the court. Though the work can be tough at times, she has seen the hard work by her and her teammates pay off.
“Hard work and dedication has made me successful but having confidence has helped me improve in my level of play and become a better athlete,” she said. “Making it to state my sophomore season was definitely a big moment for me and my team. We knew that we earned that trip.”
