Coach: Anthony Andrews
21-22 Record: 2-20
The Western Heights Jets had a tough season a year ago, struggling to a 2-20 record. But first year head coach Anthony Andrews sees a lot of possibility in his team and expects to see improvement over last season. “We will be playing in Oklahoma City Conference this year with hopes of playing 500 basketball and peaking in February to make a deep run for the state championship,” Andrews said. “We have a couple of players in from out state and we are young; therefore, we will be building chemistry during the first half of the season.”
One of the key players for the team this year will be Tyrone Beatty (6-2, Jr.). He is a triple-threat player offensively. He can drive to the goal and finish; he has a solid mid-range game, and he is a good three-point shooter. On the other end of the court, he is an excellent defender with great anticipation. Beatty also has a high basketball IQ and averaged twenty points per game a year ago. The sophomore duo of Semaj Sanders (6-3, So.) and Gunner Vanscoy (6-5, So.) will look to grow their contributions on the floor this season. Last season saw Sanders average eight points and three blocks, while Vanscoy also averaged eight points. Both young men are outstanding athletes and their impact will be vital to the team’s success.
Other players to keep an eye out for this season are Dequan Barnett (5-11, Sr.), Jaqalen Collins (5-11, Jr.), Charles Fuller (5-10, Jr.), Liumdepri Curry (5-9, So.), Stephan Guest (5-9, So.), Austin Taylor (5-8, Fr.), and Rezzell Winters (5-11, Fr.). Assistant coaches for the Jets this season are Greg Smitherman and Jeremy Thompson.
