Layne Ramsey
Carney High School
Class B baseball is no joke. It’s the largest classification to compete in and teams from Class B compete against the larger schools with plenty of success over the years. Carney High School is one of 121 teams listed by the OSSAA competing in spring baseball this season.
Carney will take the field with a sophomore behind the plate this season in Layne Ramsey. Ramsey started playing baseball, like many of his peers, at a young age.
“I started playing baseball when I was just seven-years-old, playing 10u with my brothers,” said Ramsey.
The sophomore catcher is looking forward to taking the field with his teammates this season including his brother Bo. Known for his defense behind the plate, Ramsey is continuing to improve, and his teammates are working just as hard to make the most of this season.
“I love how they [teammates] progressively get better every day,” said Ramsey.
Baseball is not the only activity Ramsey is devoting time to this year, although baseball may be his favorite.
“I’m an officer on STUCO, and an officer for Ag. I love how I can play baseball every single day of my life and never get tired of it,” said Ramsey.
The sophomore said one member of his family has been a big influence in his life, he may follow in her footsteps in the near future. “I think a big influence in my life is my mom, who pushes me every day to be better. I plan to go play ball somewhere and become a nurse just like my mom,” said Ramsey.
