Character Counts: John Marshall’s Angel Deleon – Presented by Rhonda Littleton Shelter Insurance

Parents are more than just the people that take care of us, support us, and help us as we grow up and become productive members of society. While all of those things are important, there is another role that they serve and that is being an influence on their children’s lives. Angel Deleon says that the impact that his parents have had on his life has shaped who he is and will be. “My biggest influences have to be my parents,” he stated. “My father was born in Guatemala and came over here as a child in pursuit of a better life. He is a hardworking man. My mother is my backbone. She is selfless and loving and is willing to drop anything for the people she loves. She is also a crossfit coach! So she definitely pushes me and my siblings.”

Deleon is a senior at John Marshall High School. He plays defensive end, center,
starting kicker, and linebacker on the Bears’ football team. In the classroom, he carries straight A’s. Throughout life, there will be speed bumps that slow us down or divert us off the path that we had planned. Angel had a situation like this and he fought through and came out better on the other side. “My tenth grade year was taken from me due to covid and lack in participation in athletics at Northwest Classen high school, so I transferred to John Marshall to put myself in the best position to be a successful student athlete, I was ruled ineligible my junior year
due to OSSAA hardship, but throughout those two years, I stayed consistent to improving my craft, so I have to say the highlight of my career was stepping
onto that field again with my teammates by my side and my family in the
stands.”

Deleon enjoys what downtime he has and one way he spends it is by checking
out his social media accounts. He says that while he follows a number of people, there is on person he enjoys following the most. “My favorite person to follow on social media is Faze Rug,” he stated. “He is a YouTuber that spreads positivity and
gives back to the community.”
