Athletics is about more than just playing a game and practicing. It is also about life lessons you learn as you play and the camaraderie you build among your teammates. Edmond North’s Sherri Tero says that athletics as a whole have played a big role in her family’s life.

“My late husband and I learned so much from team sports and we also made lifelong friends,” Tero said. “Being a former athlete I learned so much about teamwork, competition, good sportsmanship, responsibility, and much more. Sports definitely played a strong role in molding me into the woman and mother that I am today.  I felt strongly about instilling the same values and skills in my boys.  We both learned so much from being a part of a team and creating a drive to be your best self and setting goals in life.”

Sherri, who ran track and cross country and was a cheerleader at Tahlequah High School, has two sons that received the athletic gene from their parents.

“John is my oldest son,” she said. “He is a 2020 graduate from Edmond North and will be attending the University of Oklahoma in the fall. At Edmond North, he wrestled and played football. My youngest, Luke, will be a sophomore at Edmond North. He plays football, skis, and enjoys hanging out with his friends.”

While Tero enjoys watching her boys play, she also is proud to be a part of the Edmond North athletic family and help however she can.

“I actively have volunteered all four years of John’s involvement and will continue to do so while my youngest Luke is involved in the Edmond North football team,” she stated. “While being a member of the Edmond North Sled team, you volunteer your time to help the team and the coaches raise money and support their efforts to have a great season.  As a parent of a student athlete you support your own child but also the team and their families become your family as well. You help out in any capacity that is needed to support one another. Our North Sled Team was there for my boys and me when my husband David Allen Tero passed away. He also grew up in Edmond and attended Edmond Memorial. He played varsity basketball all four years of high school.”
