OFFENSE
Optimism is up as the Indians return 11 players with valuable experience from a team that went 8-3 last season. Head coach Charles Atchison is ready for the challenge of another tough year in 5A-1. “Really excited about the upcoming season and the challenges that we will face,” said Atchison. “Going to be young in some spots but have a good core coming back to lean on.” The up-tempo offense will benefit from having guys like Mikey Devereaux (6-2, 205, Sr.) back at running back. Devereaux rushed for 600 yards on 48 carries and scored six touchdowns. The offensive line is another strength for El Reno with Caleb Hulbutta (6-3, 270, Sr.) and Alex Perdomo (6-3, 290, Sr.) at guard. Hulbutta recorded 32 pancakes and 48 knock downs last year. A pair of quarterbacks will likely split time this season. Evan Roman Nose (6-0, 175, Jr.) and Cooper Park (6-2, 180, So.) are two capable players that can help this team win. They will have an outstanding wide receiver in Kobe Null (6-1, 170, Sr.) to throw to. Look for the Indians to run 10, 11 and 20 personnel. “We want to get as many snaps in a game as possible based on our talent level against our opponents,” said Atchison.
DEFENSE
When you play El Reno, it will seem like there is a Devereaux at every position. Mikey will start at linebacker and was the leading tackler last season. Xavior Devereaux (6-1, 200, Sr.) will play defensive end giving the defense a hard edge and good push up front. Kade Mayo (5-10, 160, Sr.) will play rover giving the secondary someone who can cover and help stop the run. Ryan Sigler (5-10, 220, Jr.) will start at nose guard with Marlon Whitlow (6-2, 230, Sr.) playing the other defensive end spot. Roman Nose will play free safety where he can ball-hawk and shut down the big plays. Look for El Reno to base in a 4-2-5 and attack you from all angles. Two players to watch this season are Bradeyn and Bradley Chavers. The Chavers boys are program kids and work hard to help the team succeed. The coaching staff consists of Westin McGill, Austin Feddersen, Fred Slaughter, J.P. Wright, Jeff Kline, Garrett Vincent, Brody Robinson, Brad Baker, Justin Brown, Jason Jones and Tyler Hughes.
