Lane Hanks looks to end this school year with an impressive golf season. Lane is a junior at Jones High School and has gained a passion for golf within the last year.
“I have been playing golf consistently for about a year now; I started a few years back but just never liked it enough to stay with it until recently. I would love to pursue golf after high school if I received the opportunity.”
Lane shares that in golf he is motivated by his own desire for improvement.
“My biggest motivations are probably just getting better and winning. I keep myself going by just not wanting to lose.”
He also finds motivation in those he looks up to.
“My biggest role models in my life are my dad and, in the golf aspect of my life, Bubba Watson. My dad is one because he pushes me out of my comfort zone and makes me do things to better myself. Bubba Watson is the other by just the pure fact of how good his golf game is. The way he can shape the golf ball in any way he wants makes it hard not to want to be like him.”
What Lane enjoys most about golf is the community and the achievement.
“One of my favorite things about my sport is probably just winning. I haven’t found a single thing as good as winning. Just the rush of joy and accomplishment that you feel after all your hard work has finally paid off,” he shares. “I also really love that I can play my sport for Jones High School. Jones has a really tight community within our athletics program and just throughout the whole school. At Jones we are all one big family in a sort of way. We are there to better one another every single day.”
