OFFENSE
Following an 8-3 season in 2020, the Bombers are looking to take that next step in 2021. Offensively, Midwest City has several key guys returning including quarterback DeAngelo Irvin (5-9, 160, Jr.). Irvin showed a lot of promise as a sophomore throwing for over 1,800 yards and 15 touchdowns while completing 63 percent of his passes. Irvin also has the ability to stress defenses with his legs adding 446 yards and one touchdown on the ground last year. It’s unclear who will be joining Irvin in the backfield, but Darian Dennis (5-9, 170, Jr.) and Cory Childs (5-10, 155, So.) are likely to get their fair share of carries. With that uncertainty in the backfield, look for Midwest City to rely on the pass a bit more this year. With Irvin’s accuracy, and the playmaking ability of wide receivers Artez Young (6-1, 190, Sr.) and Juwan Dancy (6-2, 175, Sr.), that could lead to some big passing numbers for the Bombers. Midwest City is also returning a pair of big tight ends in Shamaur Edwards (6-4, 227, Sr.) and Dylan Seabock (6-3, 215, Sr.) that are poised to make this offense even more dangerous. Leading the protection up front will be Kaleak Knighten (6-3, 250, Jr.) and Jacob Brunson (6-3, 310, So.).
DEFENSE
As talented as the Midwest City offense is, the defense might be even more formidable. Midwest City is returning five starters on defense, including four that had at least 40 tackles last year. Leading the way along the defensive line will be the combination of Shamaur Edwards, Dylan Seabock, and Quincey Kornegay (5-11, 215, Sr.). Edwards tallied 46 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and 12 sacks last year while Seabock also recorded 46 tackles and seven tackles for loss. He also added four sacks. Kornegay also had a big junior year with 47 tackles, five tackles for loss and six sacks. All three guys excel at getting into the backfield and creating problems for opposing quarterbacks. In the secondary, Juwan Dancy and Artez Young will look to shut down the opponents passing attack. Dancy finished fourth on the team in tackles last year with 56. He also broke up five passes and recorded three interceptions. Young tallied 20 tackles last year and picked off two passes.
