OFFENSE
Expectations at Millwood are always high. A fact not lost on head coach Darwin Franklin. With six returning starters to the lineup, coach Franklin is looking forward to seeing his returners and the new faces accomplish big things this season. Rickey Hunt Jr. (5-11, 180, Jr.) is back to quarterback the Falcons. Last season Hunt threw for nine scores and rushed for 1,215 yards on 135 carries with 14 touchdowns. Hunt has other weapons in the arsenal including Bailey Brown (5-6, 160, Sr.) and Asher Earl (5-11, 164, Sr.) at wide receiver. Brown had over 300 yards of total offense with four scores while Earl accounted for nearly 100 yards and one score. Sophomore running back Micho Lavine (6-1, 210) is lighting things up at camp this season. As a freshman he rushed for 322 yards on 31 carries with four touchdowns. Carlos Strong (6-0, 240, Jr.) graded out at 80 percent and is the anchor of the offensive line. Look for a spread attack from the Falcons.
DEFENSE
Several players will pull double duty for coach Franklin including Strong who will start on the defensive line with AhLanzo Henderson (6-0, 230, Jr.). Together, this duo is near unstoppable. Strong had 52 tackles and two sacks last season while Henderson had 88 tackles with nine sacks and one interception. Lavine will start at linebacker with Earl. Earl was an important part of the defense in 2020. Hunt will play strong safety with Brown moving to corner. “Our base defensive formation is 4-3 and we want to be physical, aggressive and fly to the ball while maintaining sound defensive assignments,” said Franklin.
