OFFENSE
The 2021 season can’t come soon enough for the Broncos. After a 5-7 record, the team is excited to see their growth, specifically in their juniors, after having success during their sophomore seasons. The Broncos return five players on offense and have some players they have high hopes and expectations for. Tristen Russell (5-10, 170, Jr.) returns to the starting quarterback role, after starting in eight games last season. He finished last season with over 1,800 total yards and 17 touchdowns. Head coach Lee Blankenship and his staff are very excited to have Russell back and expect him to shine in the upcoming season. Russell brings back his receivers Cameron Broadus (6-1, 185, Sr.) and Keegan Bass (5-9, 170, Jr.). Bass will run both running back and receiver, after posting 219 yards on 20 receptions. Joining bass running the ball is Jayhaun Bedford (6-0, 170, Jr.). A season ago, Bedford rushed for over 250 yards on 51 carries, and had two touchdowns as well. The offensive line has a few returnees that have proved themselves over the years and look to lead this relatively younger offense. Tight end Andre Dollar (6-5, 231, Sr.) has committed to the University of Oregon, but before he puts on the green and gold, he is focused on helping the Broncos have an unforgettable season. Tyler Whiteley (6-3, 290, Sr.) and Maximus Godwin (6-3, 275, Sr.) will start on the offensive line after starting all season in 2020. The Broncos expect to play physical and fast, running multiple formations on offense. A balanced run and pass game is what the coaching staff believes could help the team succeed.
DEFENSE
With six returning starters from last season, the Broncos defense looks to show drastic improvement. The defense will have plenty of leadership and experience, expected to start five seniors that started last season as well. Jacobe Johnson (6-3, 190, Jr.) is expected to return at defensive back, and recorded ten tackles a season ago, but that number is expected to be much higher this season after proving himself on the field during the offseason. Karston Keene (5-10, 165, Sr.) and Morgan Johnson (6-0, 195, Sr.) will join J. Johnson at the defensive back positions. Keene and M. Johnson combined for over 160 tackles and three interceptions last season. On the line is Christian Rowland (6-2, 260, Sr.) who looks to add to his 49 tackles and one sack from 2020. Keep an eye on Rowland as he has the natural size and athleticism to make a name for himself on the field. Returning to the linebacker positions are Kiefer Siler (6-1, 230, Sr.) and Taesyn Harper (6-1, 200, Sr.). Siler recorded 103 tackles last season as well as a sack and Harper has the potential to turn some heads on defense this year. The Broncos are expected to run a 4-3 defensive formation, playing very fast and aggressive. Coach Blankenship expects a great year from a core group of players with a ton of experience.
