Newcastle’s Chad Craft – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Focus Federal Credit Union

Chad Craft
Newcastle High School
When Chad Craft first started playing football, he knew this was the sport for him.
“When I was in little league, I did play baseball, but it didn’t give the same feeling as football
but now in high school I have found that track and field gives that same feeling football
does for me,” said Craft.

Now a member of the varsity football team at Newcastle High School, Craft is excited to be
in his final season of prep football and his final year of high school.
“I’m mostly excited for the experience of my last year in high school. Newcastle schools in
general are an amazing place to learn and grow as a person, and we take our sports very
seriously. Being a part of Newcastle HS is like being a part of a bigger family,” said Craft.
The senior said his teammates and coaches are more like family members.
“My fellow teammates, like I said previously it’s like a big ole family and we all love each
other, and the coaches are also not excluded from this, whether it be coaches that have
moved to other schools or just couldn’t coach anymore they are all family,” said Craft.
When his playing days are over and he’s walked across the graduation stage, Craft will turn
his focus to college.
“I want to major in Health science I hope to do physical therapy someday,” said Craft.
Before he heads off to college, Craft said he and his teammates are going to enjoy every
minute of the season.
“Most of us have been playing together since little league and that connection is very
special to me. Definitely keep an eye on Jackson Bergt QB, TJ Bradford, Taj Smith at guard
and defensive tackle, and Maddox Birdsong at guard and defensive end,” said Craft.
The big man said his favorite class at school has been forensic science with coach Sheets
and he wants the 2024 class to be remembered for their effort and attitude on and off the
field.
