Norman North’s Syrah Javed – Presented By Landers Auto Group

High school athletes may look up to family members or friends as role models, while others may look up to famous athletes or other celebrities. A golfer at Norman North, Syrah Javed says that the biggest influences on her life are some people that she is the closest to.

“My dad is my role model,” Syrah said. “He always pushes me to be better and he is the hardest worker I know. He never gives up even when it’s hard. Also, my brothers Sahad and Fahad do a great job of keeping me working hard and staying motivated. In the classroom, Mr. Campos has always believed in me and supported me through golf and school.”

A junior, Javed enjoys playing the game of golf so much that she also volunteers to teach the sport to young kids.

There has been a lot of time and effort that she has invested in her golf game, but Syrah has also seen the rewards of it.

“It has taken a lot of hard work, dedication, and patience to get where I am today,” she said. “Probably the highlight of my career was winning two Texas Junior Golf Tournaments (TJGT). One of them I won in a playoff. It was a great feeling to know that I had earned those victories with my preparation and practice.”
Norman North’s head golf coach, Butch Roberts, says that Syrah is a key member of the team and makes a huge impact anytime she steps on the course.

“This will be her third year on varsity,” Jones said. “She is far and away our most experienced player. She should be a factor in every event we play.”

At sixteen years old, Javed is currently ranked twelfth out of 391 girls in the TJGT rankings and fourth in the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tournament rankings.

“I am proud to represent Norman North when I play,” she stated. “I am blessed with all the opportunities my parents have provided me playing in this sport and I am forever thankful.”
