North Rock Creek’s Jordan Coody – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By BancFirst

Jordan Coody is a junior at North Rock Creek High School. He has competed in track since eighth grade in the 4×800, 1600, 3200, and 800-meter runs. He is also involved in FCA and plays basketball for the Cougars.

“What first got me interested was probably little Olympics because it was fun and I loved competing even though I wasn’t the best and only got to run because my friends would drop the event for me to go,” he said. “But one of the main reasons I did track was because my eighth-grade year my basketball coach, coach Axton, started a cross country team for the first time and I told him I would run. And after running all that year I had so much fun I just kept doing it.”

Whether basketball or track, Coody appreciates all the aspects of being a high school athlete.

“In my opinion the best part about playing sports in high school is definitely the bond with my friends I make and being able to have fun while playing the sport,” he said. “Also, a little of seeing the younger kids a little happy to see you and being able to be a leader for them.”

One of his favorite moments in track was making it to state.

“I didn’t perform the best overall, but I got better in each event and the atmosphere was amazing with my teammate and friends,” he recalled.

As for his plans after high school, Coody wants to attend college and pursue a degree in architecture.
