Oklahoma Christian School senior Luke Gray is a multi-sport athlete, playing both Basketball and Football for the OCS Saints. For Basketball, Luke plays Power Forward. When playing football, Luke plays Tight End.
Every athlete has something that motivates them. Luke stated, “What motivates me is when our teams are over looked or they do not think we are good as other teams. It drives me and makes me want to do whatever it takes to win, and prove them wrong.”
In regards to who Luke considers his favorite teacher is, he spoke highly of many of them. “At Oklahoma Christian School, every single teacher is so genuine and encouraging to every one of the students. But I would say one teacher that does that day in and day out was my junior math teacher Mr. Santos. He makes an effort to put a smile on everyone’s face and it has helped me do the same to others.”
In terms of influences and role models, Luke stated, “Some big influences and role models that are in my life include my head basketball coach. Coach Weaver pushes me more than anyone I have ever known not only to be the best basketball player, but a great leader, Christian, and man as well.”
“Being successful has a lot to do with every single person on the team. It takes everyone being 100% bought into the program.”
Many memories are made while participating in high school sports. For Luke, reaching a certain achievement stands out to him the most. “There have been many good moments in my high school sports career, but I would probably say scoring 1000 points was a very cool milestone and experience in my career.”
When asked what it means to represent Oklahoma Christian School, and his community, Luke stated, “It means a lot. It is a blessing and a privilege for sure and I get to play for something that is bigger than myself. I have a lot of people watching me so I always keep that in mind. But most of all I am playing for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
Besides being a basketball and football player, Luke is involved in another extracurricular event at Oklahoma Christian School. “At Oklahoma Christian School, they offer FCA which stands for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. I am blessed to be able to be one of the leaders in that organization. It has been a really encouraging and positive thing in our school.”
