Quick Hits:

Mike Snyder took over as the head coach at Seminole in 1980. In his 42 seasons, the Chieftains have made the playoffs 38 times. Snyder owns 375 wins at the school.

Seminole and Wewoka met every year from 1955 through 1995, the 2021 meeting will mark the 94th in series history. Seminole has dominated lately winning 15 of the last 16.

OFFENSE

The Chieftains return nine starters to the offense coming into the 2021 season, but head coach Mike Snyder and the staff are looking to build some depth behind those starters. “We have a lot of experience back, but we have to find some depth,” said Snyder. “We need to develop the offensive line and wide receivers.” Jason Batiste (5-10, 160, Jr.) rushed for 850 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He returns to tote the rock again this season with Jordan Rodriquez (5-10, 165, Sr.) at quarterback. Rodriquez amassed 425 total passing yards after sharing time at the position with Vacake Wassana (6-0, 170, Jr.). Wassana threw for 520 yards and both players can help the team by contributing in other positions. Braxton Street (5-9, 160, Jr.) had 340 yards receiving with four touchdowns from his wide out spot. The offensive line will feature Shemmei Stephens (6-2, 280, Sr.) and Myles Branson (5-11, 220, Sr.). The Chieftains need younger players to step up and take over starting roles on the offensive line. Look for Stephens and Branson to be the leaders that help those younger players mature and develop into starters.

DEFENSE

Eight starters are back on defense giving the Chieftains a real shot at being one of the top defensive units in district. Miguel Conley (6-0, 190, Jr.) and Garrett Chaffin (6-0, 205, Jr.) are back at linebacker. These two big thumpers are quick to the ball and close with force. Lebrius Johnson (6-1, 220, Jr.) is a quick defensive end with excellent range and the ability to turn the corner and harass quarterbacks. Also look for Isaha Cochrane (6-2, 190, Jr.) at end as well giving the Chieftains two ends that get up field quickly. The secondary will feature Lance Fixico (6-2, 185, Jr.) and Joe Fixico (6-2, 180, So.). Both guys play with a lot of speed and have the ability to defend against the pass. Look for several underclassmen to contribute on the defensive side of the ball. The coaching staff will consist of Shawn Snyder, Blake Johnson, Bob Underwood, Brian McAlvain, Thomas Bare, Kade Davis, Royce Street and Shane Stanfill.
