Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Western Heights Jets were forced into sitting out the 2020-21 season. As the Jets make their way back to the court, head coach Marcelle Oats is excited to have a team full of seniors and guys who are hungry to play. “This senior dominate team has a chance to be one of the best teams in Western Heights boys basketball history,” said coach Oats. “By the end of the season, this team will be good and has set a team goal to make the state playoffs.” Leading the way is Isaiah Alstatt (5-9, Jr.) at point guard. Alstatt may be the best player on the team. As a freshman he averaged 18 points a game before leaving Oklahoma for Texas his sophomore season. Now Alstatt is back with an improved jump shot and a renewed interest in being that dog on defense. Treville Fuller is another guard to watch this season. He can shoot and handle the rock. Only a sophomore, Fuller has the potential to be a difference maker immediately. Rohi Sama may be the most improved player on the roster. Sama is hitting in the area of 50 percent from the three-point mark and has the ability to get to the rim when necessary. Also look for Melachi Robinson works hard to set the tone for the team, in games and in practice. Robinson has the drive and desire to be a next level talent.

GIRLS
Coach: Carlos Coppage I

After taking a year off from athletics due to COVID-19, Western Heights returns to the basketball court under new leadership is Carlos Coppage I. Coach Coppage is excited to have this team eager to take the court and see what they can accomplish this season. “We are a very young and inexperienced group who will be led by junior guard Bridget Cole, who is the only player back from the 2019-20 team,” said coach Coppage. Cole (5-8, Jr.) is a combo guard with a knack for finding the basket. Cole brings experience to the floor for the Lady Jets, while Ivy Spratt (5-7, Sr.) adds great decision making and stability to the lineup. The senior will be looked to for leadership and quality minutes this season. Paris Brown (5-8, Fr.) is an exciting underclassman who plays hard on both ends of the court. Brown and Kanoshia Lewis (5-7, Jr.) are two scrappy players who gives 100 percent at all times. Also look for Paola Correa (5-10, So.) is a long, rangy player that tracks well and can crash the boards. Several new faces will need to step up and provide depth and give coach Coppage some options down the stretch. Look for the Lady Jets to compete and be a tough out this season.
