Bethel High School senior LW Moore has been around baseball ever since he can remember.
“I grew up with my dad playing baseball and my sister was playing softball,” he said. “So, I just was basically born into it and have loved it ever since.”
Moore believes that baseball is more than just a game. It’s a learning experience.
“Baseball teaches a lot of life lessons,” he says. “It teaches you to never give up and about adversity. When you get down, you need to get back up and be there for your teammates.”
As a pitcher for the Wildcat baseball team, Moore knows he can’t do it all on his own and he has to rely on his teammates to help him out.
“When I’m pitching, I just think it’s ok if they hit it,” Moore says. “I let the eight players behind make the play. I trust them to do that.”
With a fairly young roster, Moore knows his coaches are counting on him to be one of the team leaders.
“My first goal this year was to be a leader,” he says. “We have a lot of young players coming up and I just want to bring the excitement to the team. Baseball is a hard sport and you’re going to fail more than you succeed. I just want to lift my teammates up when they get down.”
Moore also knows that as a senior he has to work hard to set a good example for the underclassmen. He credits his mother for instilling a good work ethic in him.
“We had kind of tough life growing up,” Moore says. “She worked hard to make sure that we had the best life possible.”
Moore’s hard work has paid off. He currently has a couple of opportunities to play sports at the next level. Lyon College in Arkansas is recruiting him to play football and Rose State College is recruiting him in baseball.
