MAVERICK LANG
3-7
OFFENSE
The Meeker Bulldogs enter 2022 with eight starters returning to an offense that is predicated on keeping the defense off balance. “We utilize multiple formations with a gap scheme running game and a vertical passing game. We use formations and motions to allow for our skill guys to get the ball in open space. We have athletic offensive linemen that we pull a lot. We base out of the no-huddle and will use different tempos throughout the course of the game,” Lang said. Ty Gabbert (6-0, 170, Sr.) is an explosive guy at quarterback that can produce a big play on any given down. As a team captain he threw for 1,715 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2021 while also rushing for another 328 and three scores. Braden Harris (6-2, 185, Sr.) is a tall, hardworking player with great hands and instincts, in 2021 he had over 350 yards receiving and a pair of touchdowns. Playmaker Kayde Massey (6-2, 190, Jr.) is the type of guy who can do it all. As a two-way starter, Massey lines up wherever his team needs him, and is an extremely competitive football player. His versatility revealed itself last year as he hauled in 40 receptions for 420 yards and four scores out of the backfield and lined up outside. Treyvon Compton (5-9, 160, So.) had an impressive freshman year and can also play several positions. As he grows into his body and matures, Lang plans to move him around until he finds a position where he can make the most of his abilities.
DEFENSE
Physicality is the name of the game for the Bulldog’s defense in 2022. “We are a 4-3 or 4-2-5 defense that relies heavily on our guys flying to the ball,” Lang said. “We have the opportunity to be big and physical up front and also have speed on the back end to run around and make plays.” The Bulldogs will have plenty of young men ready to make moves in 2022. Ajay Lynch (5-10, 185, Jr.) is a speedy strong safety that plays physically with a high football IQ. He and cornerback Manny Saavedra (5-11, 165, So.) are pests for quarterbacks and receivers alike as they bring lock down coverage and hard hits every week. Saavedra started every game last year as a freshman and coaches expect him to have a great year as he continues to grow and learn at the high school level. Connor Wolf (5-11, 240, Sr.) and Bobby Brooks (6-6, 290, Jr.) are two physically imposing forces on the defensive front. They bring a level of aggression that can wear down an offensive line in a hurry. Linebacker Brayden Dowdle (5-10, 215, Jr.) has become “Mr. Reliable” around Meeker as he can always be found in the weight room working to get better day after day.
