Athletes put in a lot of work and dedication in order to be the best they can be. They know that it takes more than just showing up on the day of the competition. Olivia VanAntwerp says that mental preparation is just as important as the physical.
“It has taken a lot of hard work and dedication along with many hours of practice,” she said. “You have to have the mindset that others may be working harder than you, so work harder than them. In order to try to be the best at your sport you need to encourage and support others along the way. At the end of the day your team is your family and the bond with them is what truly makes you successful at your sport.”
Olivia is sophomore at North Rock Creek High School. She is a member of the school’s fastpitch and slow pitch softball teams along with the cheer squad and the track team.
She has had a lot of influences on her life that have helped her along the way. But for her there are a few of those that have had a greater impact.
“First and foremost, God is my biggest role model,” she stated. “Because without Him nothing would be possible. My family is and always will be my biggest supporters. I have a big family who is always there to watch and cheer me on in whatever activity I’m in. Finally, my cheer coach Tariah Gossett because without her support I wouldn’t be able to be the multi-sport athlete that I am. She has been encouraging and a great motivator towards me and all the sports I play. I am incredibly blessed to have all these people in my life, because without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
VanAntwerp has made a lot of memories over her time playing sports, but she says that her favorite moment happened at a cheer camp she attended.
“The highlight moment of my career is getting All-American cheerleader at the 2021 OU spirit camp as a sophomore.”
Along with playing sports, Olivia is also a member of the FFA and the FCA.
