Carl Albert Football Preview: Defense – Presented by Hudson Investments

Head coach – Mike Dunn

2021: 10-3

The Titans run a 4-2-5 base, but vary in multiple fronts and coverages. Their style is based on gap control defense, sound technique, and physical play. The goal is to swarm the ball and keep the offense behind the sticks. Tashawn James (6-2, 190, Sr.) is a strong vocal leader at defensive back. In 2021 he had two interceptions and, incredibly, blocked seven kicks. As a three-year starter he has multiple D-1 offers, including Tulsa and Iowa State. At defensive end, Brock Johnson (6-1, 214, Jr.) had 47 tackles, three sacks, two pass break ups, and 14 quarterback hurries, and seven tackles for loss. Linebacker Easton Harless (5-10, 181, Jr.) finished with 62 tackles, one sack, three for loss, forced one fumble and recovered two. Tanner Norman (6-2, 251, Jr.) is a defensive lineman and had 44 tackles, two sacks, and blocked a punt. Chancy Lester (5-11, 186, Sr.) had two interceptions and 42 tackles at safety. Cody Longstreet (5-10, 183, Sr.) is a throwback quiet kid that’s not worried about all the accolades. All he does is work hard. “Pound for pound he’s probably the strongest player on the team,” Dunn said.
