Most of us grow up running around the neighborhood, playing games, and running away from the “it” person to avoid being tagged. Very few of us take that skill and translate it into a varsity sport.

That’s exactly what Del City High School’s Ke’Lin Kearney did. The varsity track standout will compete this season in two events for the Eagles.

“I have ran track since 4th grade and the events I will be running this season is the 400-meter dash and 4×400-meter relay,” said Kearney.

At one time Kearney played basketball from middle school through his freshman season of high school. Now his focus is on track and making the most of every opportunity it offers.

“I enjoy all the support my coaches, teachers, and friends give me so that I can be the best I can. I would really love to go to a great college and join their track program and go out there and compete. I would also like to major in computer science,” said Kearney.

Being a member of the team and representing his school is important to Kearney. His coaches and teammates are big motivating factors for Kearney.

“The toughest on the team would have to be coach Hooper, he always makes sure we are preforming to are best abilities and makes us better every practice. However, coach Hooper is also someone who can make anyone laugh no matter if you’re in a bad mood or just not feeling it. Lastly, I would say I’m the serious one on the team but mainly during practice and track meets because it helps me perform my best once I am focused,” said Kearney.

Kearney said he finds inspiration in family and faith.

“My family and God have always been a big influence in my life and because of them, I’ve become the great person I am today. Some athletes I admire are my dad and mom, Kobe Bryant, Michael Johnson, and Bruce Lee,” said Kearney.
