Carl Albert High School’s Ryan Reynolds – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Leticia Pena-Torres – Shelter Insurance

Ryan Reynolds was three or four-years-old when his dad gave him a basketball goal for Christmas. This was the moment he got into basketball. “I remember being the happiest and that’s when I knew I was going to be a hooper,” said Ryan.

Now a senior at Carl Albert High School, Ryan has come far. Along with fond memories of his toy basketball goal, he remembers his sophomore year hitting the game winning shot against Norman in the Titan Classic Championship. “It was an out of body experience,” he says.

Being part of a team teaches communication and respect. Ryan is most proud to represent CAHS when people ask what school he goes to or when he and his team are recognized for being respectful.

Ryan is always looking to better himself in the future. The skills he learns on the basketball court with his teammates help him to achieve that goal.

Ryan looks up to professional players like Russell Westbrook because of how he faces adversity and overcomes it. Closer to home, Ryan says he has respect for his teammates. “I would say all of my teammates left an impression on me because we all work hard together, and I have respect for that.”

Family and friends are important to Ryan. His dad always pushes him to be the best version of himself and Ryan says his mom makes the best enchiladas. “I want to thank all my family for being there for everything. I also want to thank Kennedi for being there for me and pushing me to be the best,” he said.

When it is vacation time Ryan wants to take Quincy and Jay Mott. Any Florida beach will do for this trio…watchout Florida.

“Always keep your head on the next play,” says Ryan. Whether it is literally the next gameplay, or referring to the game of life, this advice is something he holds dear.
