Carl Albert’s Casey Baker – Track Spotlight – Presented by RibCrib

By Jayden Oyler
Casey Baker, a seasoned track and field athlete, has etched his name in the annals of Carl Albert High School’s sports history. “I’m most proud of making it to state both years and placing at every meet I’ve been to,” Baker proudly declares, reflecting on his achievements that span not just one, but two impactful years on the track.

Beyond the medals and victories, track and field has been a crucible of resilience for Baker. “It teaches me to never give up, even when it gets gritty,” he shared.

Throughout Baker’s high school experience, a particular teacher stands out — Mr. Ralph Humphries, his sophomore-year math teacher. “He was just a really good all-around teacher,” Baker shared. “He always explained everything well, and genuinely cared.”

Behind Baker’s drive on the track are the unwavering pillars of support in his life. “My mom and grandma inspire me,” Baker said. “They have always been there for me the most and have shown me what hard work is.”

In the world of sports, mentorship plays a crucial role, and for Baker, that mentor was Jordan England, a former basketball teammate. “He showed me how to stay calm and collected even when everything is going so fast,” Baker reflected.

“My favorite part about representing Carl Albert is being able to win races with that big C.A. on my chest,” he shared. “I love the chance to bring home championships for my school.”

As Baker navigates the track, the wisdom of the best advice he’s received echoes in his mind: “Pain is progression, and losing isn’t an option.” These words serve as a mantra, propelling him forward even when the finish line seems distant.

Beyond the track, Baker’s high school experience encompasses a versatile athletic journey — he was a three-year basketball player, showcasing his commitment to excellence across multiple arenas.

As he approaches the final lap of his high school career, Baker takes a moment to express gratitude. “I want to give a shout-out to Coach Cam, Coach Johnson, Coach Mac, and Coach Rawlins for making me the runner I am,” Baker heartfully shared.
