Choctaw Lady Yellowjackets 2023 Basketball Preview Presented by Ben Sexton Shelter Insurance

Brooke Curry

The Lady Yellowjackets are coming into this new season with a clean slate and an eye on a deep playoff run. After advancing to the Area Tournament last year, head coach Ryan Maloney likes the makeup of his team and is expecting good results.

“We have some veteran players coming back with more experience than we had last season,” Maloney said. “We will be a fun, skilled team to watch compete. We continue to work on our depth and hope that we can move a lot of pieces in and out to play at a faster tempo.”

One of the familiar faces back for her sophomore year is Aliyah Duval (5-9, So.). She started as a freshman and is coming into this season ready to make a huge impact. She is getting looks from multiple schools and was the conference Defensive Player of the Year last season.

Shelbie Pherigo (5-8, Sr.) is one of those players that will do whatever she can to help her team be successful. She is not afraid to do the dirty work if that is what the situation calls for. Brooke Curry (5-8, Sr.) is a great teammate on and off the court and she is always there to encourage and lift up her teammates.

Other players that will look to make an impact this season are Kate Davis (5-7, Sr.), Brooke Curry (5-8, Sr.), Adison Kraeer (5-9, Jr.), Alaura Pruitt (5-8, Sr.), and Mariah Watson (5-8, Jr.).

The assistant coaches for Choctaw this season are Brian Spradlin and Taffy Harman.
