Christian Heritage sophomore Hudson Smith will compete with the varsity track team this season, running three long distance events.

“I am running the 800-meter individual, the 3200-meter relay, and the 1600-meter individual,” said Smith.

Being part of the team, Smith said his teammates are the reason he pushed through the tough workouts and is excited for the season.

“I enjoy my teammates the most. I have run for four years and have built a lot of great relationships with my teammates. They have pushed me to be a better runner. My senior teammate Jacob Kerbo has really helped me to push through hard workouts. Running is a team sport, and we can’t achieve anything big unless we push each other. I have had some of my best races when my teammates are encouraging me to do better and remind me that each race is important, but ultimately that we run for God,” said Smith.

As a student at Christian Heritage, Smith is involved in a club at school that gives Smith the opportunity to help area businesses accomplish tasks and reach goals.

“I am involved in a club at school called Least of These. Our team goes out throughout the state and helps businesses with work that they need done. A lot of times these jobs are hard. In the end we get a lot more done than the business could have gotten done by itself,” said Smith.

Smith said he’s made some great memories as a student-athlete for Christian Heritage.

“My favorite memory from running for CHA is when we were driving to Watonga for a cross country meet. Our hubcap fell off the bus. I yelled, “Hey Coach, our hubcap just fell off.” Evidently, she didn’t hear me because she just kept driving. About a mile our tire busted. We pulled over and our parents had to drive us the rest of the way. While the rest of the teams were pulling up in their buses our team rolled in crammed in our parents’ cars. We still tease our coach about her driving and remind her constantly about the day the bus blew a tire.
