Luther’s Bella Mayen – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By BancFirst

Senior Bella Mayen is a three-sport athlete at Luther High School, where she competes in cheer, powerlifting, and track & field. Mayen has competed on the cheer squad all four years and has been the team captain since her sophomore season.

“I try my best to give my all every run through,” Mayen said. “My favorite thing about cheer is stunting. My stunt partner, Kammi, is always down for something new and fun. I will miss her the most once we graduate.”

Recently the Lady Lions placed 4th at regionals and will head to state. Mayen has received several individual awards at NCA camps throughout the years and has been nominated for All-American all six years that the team has attended NCA camps. This past season, Mayen was named to the NCA All-American team and was invited to join the NCA team following her graduation.

“Bella is a great cheerleader,” coach Heather Vigil said. “She has been the captain for the past three years and is an amazing role model to our underclassmen. She is always willing to help others and is usually the first to arrive and the last to leave at any cheer activity. Bella has a great ability to turn it on when she needs to.”

Outside of athletics, Mayen is involved in FCCLA, FCA, the marching band, winter guard, NHS, Oklahoma Honors Society, and is the senior class secretary. Mayen has had straight A’s all throughout her high school career and is ranked No. 2 in her class with a 4.09 GPA. Upon graduation, Mayen will have completed 30 hours of college credit. She plans to attend the University of Central Oklahoma to pursue a degree in general business. She then plans to attend Francis Tuttle to obtain her nail technician and esthetician license in hopes of one day opening her own beauty salon.

Mayen’s biggest mentor has been her mom, Amy, who has provided inspiration through cheer and her daily life.

“My mom has contributed so much to make me the person I am today,” Mayen said. “She always encourages me to my fullest potential and gives me a shove when I feel like not trying.”
