Luther’s Drew Scheer – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by BancFirst

By Hannah Ossman

Senior baseball player for Luther High School, Drew Scheer, is just weeks away from graduating and is looking forward to all of the exciting times ahead of him.

Drew has been enjoying playing baseball since he was just a toddler and has always been a naturally great player. He enjoys the game because it is America’s pastime, and a large part of the country’s history.

Over all his years playing, some of Drew’s favorite memories have stemmed from simply being with his teammates and friends and having a great time. One memory that stands out for Drew was winning the little league world series.

Drew has made great friendships with his teammates, and they mean everything to him.

“I rely on them like they rely on me. It is a team effort day in and day out. We win and lose together,” said Drew.

Every athlete has a main source of motivation, and for Drew, that comes from his leadership qualities and his desire to maintain his skill set. These things make him strive to be the best that he can be.

“I try to be the positive aspects in everyone and pick up different ways to do things. No one is perfect, nor am I, so I try to better myself from other people,” said Drew.

As graduation is approaching, Drew has a few goals for this last season. He hopes his team will be able to pull off a .500 season and host a playoff game, and he hopes to personally have the best statistics on the team overall.

Drew is looking forward to soaking up all the remaining memories of high school over the next few weeks and enjoying his final baseball games.

To his underclassmen, Drew says, “Have fun and enjoy every moment. Don’t take anything for granted. Get involved and stay involved. I can still remember freshman year like it was yesterday, and a month from now I am graduating. Time flies, so enjoy it.”
