Luther’s Halyn Browning Athlete Spotlight Presented by BancFirst

Halyn Browning

Luther High School

The Luther High School girls’ basketball team has worked their way into a Top 20 ranking in Class 3A this season under head coach Michelle Hazelip. Coach Hazelip has several players contributing to the overall success of the team.

One player making some noise on the court this season is Halyn Browning, a junior who has played basketball since she was five years old. Browning said the reason for the success is the culture at Luther HS.

“What I love about being a student-athlete at LHS is how the culture is set. Everyone will support you,” said Browning.

Coach Hazelip gave high praise to the junior and her abilities on the court.

“She is one of the most athletically gifted athletes I have coached, and her court vision is exceptional,” said Hazelip.

Browning said the team and her teammates are all-in when it comes to the new scheme and gameplan for the season.

“The team is really locking in on understanding our new coach and having the younger ones step up. What makes my teammates special is how much they support me, and how hard they work for our team,” said Browning.

In school Browning said her favorite subject is math and she enjoys all of her teachers. Browning is a member of the student council and is making plans for life after high school, which Browning said will include traveling and raising a family. In her free time Browning said she enjoys reading and spending time with family.

As for the rest of the season? Browning and her teammates want to make post-season play and see how far they can go.

“The goal is to make it past the first round at state,” said Browning.
