MIDWEST CITY BOMBERS

Coach: MARK W. JUDSON

OUTLOOK

Mark Judson is building a new foundation for Midwest City. The first-year head coach went to work right away, installing an offseason program following a 6-23 season in 2022. “I took over as coach last year and immediately put in an offseason program including weights, field work and hitting. The girls have responded well and have improved dramatically,” Judson said. “Midwest City High School softball has a lot of amazing athletes that are working really hard to make up a winning team in 2023.” The Bombers will be led by senior shortstop/catcher Karissa Payne, a VYPE Top 100 nominee. “Karissa is an amazing young lady that is going into her senior year. She will be our starting shortstop but is great at third base and catcher as well,” Judson said. “Her batting average was over .320 while batting cleanup and driving in a lot of runs. She has really stepped up her play this offseason and is looking forward to playing college softball after this year. We are looking forward to her senior leadership, helping us through our first winning season in many years.”

Noreli Brown returns after pitching in every Midwest City game as a freshman last year. Brown will also see action in the outfield. She hit over .400 in 2022. “[Noreli] is only getting better while playing summer travel ball for the 16U Oklahoma Twisters, pitching and playing shortstop,” Judson said. “She has spent the summer attending several prospect camps and still working hard for Bomber team camps. Noreli also puts the ‘student’ in ‘student-athlete’. We are looking forward to Noreli helping the Bombers in the first winning season for some years as a sophomore.” Addy Scott also returns after producing as a freshman. Scott, a second baseman, hit over .400 last season. “Addy worked hard to start as a freshman last year and is an amazing player and young lady,” Judson said. “She is improving her skills, playing on the Oklahoma Exclusive 16U Gold. We are looking forward to her also leading the Bombers to our first winning season in years as a sophomore.” Freshman Livia Davis will be expected to fill roles as a pitcher, first baseman and outfielder. “Livia Davis shows the character to be a great team player. She made varsity with her bat and her glove,” Judson said. “She is a pitcher, first baseman and outfielder but she first impressed me with her bat. She looks like she will win a starting position on varsity this summer. She works hard wherever I put her and helps the team tremendously.” Another freshman, speedy outfielder/shortstop Natalia Wilson, is expected to contribute as well. “Natalia is an incoming freshman that made my varsity team because of her speed running bases but has shown much more in our summer camps,” Judson said. “The sky’s the limit for this young lady. She is an A student and has shown me an incredible work ethic. She hit an inside the park homerun in a scrimmage in June.” Kore’Yana Matthews, Maaliyah Harrison, Elisa Rodriguez and Amylia Peteet will make contributions as the other seniors for the Bombers in 2023. Juniors include Kenee Thompson, Rekeciona “Keke” Walker and Justine Limburg. Other sophomores are Kadynce Berry, Amari Russell and Nakiyah “Kiyah” Cooper.
