Midwest City’s Stephen Lewellyn – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Bruce Shook – State Farm

Baseball teaches work ethic and consistency. At Midwest City High School, senior Stephen Lewellyn uses his status as a student athlete to show how great his school is and how competitive and talented they are as a school and a community.

“My favorite part about being on a team is growing a brotherhood, making memories and having fun with them,” says Stephen, “I want to be the best, and I want to make my dreams and everyone else’s dream come true.”

Stephen’s favorite memory is winning the first playoff game in 2023 with his team. “We had a great time coming home and just had so much fun in general. Great experience,” he said.

Stephen has received much advice through the years. One thing he says has the most impact on the game. “Stay confident! Your mental strength is so important and is a big game changer in the long run. Stay on top of it!” he exclaims.

Stephen looks up to pro baseball legend, Nolan Ryan. “He gave me my love of pitching. He showed me how dominant and fun it is to control the game,” says Stephen.

His fellow teammates have had the biggest impact on him. “Every teammate, every single one of them has taught me a valuable lesson or skill that will stick with me forever, and for that I will always be grateful and look up to them,” he said.

“I would like to say thank you to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and my coaches, coach Haddox, coach Dion, coach Vodka, and coach Scooter for helping me grow and develop myself,” says Stephen, “I would also like to thank my parents who have always provided and supported me throughout my whole life. I want to make them proud and happy.”

For a vacation Stephen wants to go to Cooperstown, New York to see the National Baseball Hall of Fame with his parents and his entire baseball team. He thinks they would enjoy the experience of seeing the history of the game he loves so much.
