Moore’s Libby Jaques Athlete Spotlight Presented by Hey Day

By Jayden Oyler
Libby Jaques, an 11th grader at Moore High School, excels in not just one, but three sports –
softball, basketball, and track.
Among her notable achievements, Jaques’ commitment to playing softball at Oklahoma State
stands out. She proudly shares, “Committing to Oklahoma State would be what I am most
proud of,” Jaques said. “It has been my dream school since I was 4.”

In the face of challenges, Jaques lives by a powerful motto, “It’s okay to fail, but it’s not okay to
quit.” This mindset has undoubtedly fueled her success in sports and life.
When it comes to teachers who have left an impact on her, she can’t narrow it down. “I can’t
just pick one,” Jaques said. “I’ve had so many great teachers that have taught me a lot.”
Jaques draws her inspiration from her brothers, who have shown her the value of hard work
and pursuing one’s passion. “My brothers inspire me because they both work so hard and are
getting to do what they love in college,” Jaques said. “They have fueled me to chase my
dreams.”
One individual who made an indelible impression on Jaques is Maddie Bills, a teammate who
embodied the spirit of support and mentorship. Bills passed away in April, but her legacy lives
on through Jaques. “Now that I am an upperclassman, I want to do the same and be there for
others like she was there for me,” Jaques said. “Bills passed away in April, and this is my way of
keeping her legacy alive.”
“Being able to represent something bigger than myself, being part of a team, and getting to
represent my whole school and community,” she notes are her favorite parts of representing
her school.
“Thank you to my mom and dad for always being there for me. Thank you for always cheering
me on at everything I do; it means more than you guys ever know. You both mean the world to
me and I love you both!”
