Moore’s Libby Jaques – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by RibCrib

For Libby Jaques an important part of playing basketball is taking care of underclassmen. This honors the memory of her teammate, Maddie Bills, who passed away in April.

“Maddie made the biggest impression on me. She was an amazing teammate and always made sure to take good care of the underclassmen. Now that I am an upperclassman, I want to do the same and be there for others like she was there for me,” says Libby, “it’s a good way to keep her legacy alive.”
Libby is a competitor. She is a junior at Moore High School, where she plays softball, basketball and track.

Athletics has taught her teamwork and allows her to make memories while having fun with friends.

Her best memory is of teamwork during a comeback against Deer Creek. Down 11
points going into the fourth quarter, the Moore Lady Lions pulled it together and won by seven.

“This is my favorite moment because it took the team to win, not just one person. We never gave up even though we were behind. It took the whole team to win. I love being a Moore Lion so every time I put a uniform on I try to represent them and make my school proud,” said Libby.

Family is Libby’s biggest inspiration. She says they always work hard and support her in everything. She would love to travel with her family and her best friend Shay’s family to Hawaii. “We would have such an amazing time together,” Libby says.

She is thankful to her family for everything they have done but is also thankful to all her coaches and trainers for everything they have done to make her better in all her sports.

“Playing three sports, it takes a lot of coaches and trainers to get me competition ready and I appreciate everyone for that,” she said.

The best advice she has been given is that, “nobody cares…work harder.”

In addition to sports, Libby is involved in the National Honor Society, helping with Special Olympics, and rock climbing.
