Moore/Norman

Q & A with Norman North’s Lydia Plummer Presented by David Ritter Shelter Insurance

VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing your sport?

Lydia: I got into my sport in about second grade. If I’m honest, I did it because my sister was doing it and I just wanted to be better, but I fell in love with the sport. As soon as I picked up the ball I knew I’d be doing this sport for a while.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Lydia: My sport has taught me that l am supposed to play for the love of the game, not to play for the wins and losses, but to play because I love it.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?

Lydia: Olivia Watkins. Olivia is one of the best teammates I could ever ask for. She pushes me in practice to be the best. When I slack in practice she’s there to tell me to pick it up. When I miss a shot she’s there to tell me I got the next one. Overall she’s just an amazing person to be around. Never a dull moment with her.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

Lydia: My favorite thing is when kids tell you in the hallway that you did a good job, or when teachers recognize you for getting a game winning shot or something like that, it’s just a great feeling.

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to?

Lydia: The professional athlete I look up to is Kobe Bryant. I look up to him because he was just an amazing player. He was an amazing person on and off the court.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?

Lydia: My favorite teacher is Jason Hensley. Mr. Hensley is my favorite teacher because he was so helpful to me when I had the worst days in school. He truly is such an amazing soul, and the funniest person you’ll ever meet. He also shares his snacks.

VYPE: Who inspires you?

Lydia: My dad, My dad has inspired me so much. He is the man in our house but he’s also my best friend. He’s there for all of it and puts up with a house of four women. He is the most hardworking man I have ever seen in my life. I love him with everything I have. He motivates me to be the best me I can be.

VYPE: What is your all-time favorite meal?

Lydia: My all time favorite meal is a medium rare steak with a loaded baked potato and macaroni and cheese.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Lydia: The best advice anyone has ever given me is to not play the sport for me but to play it for the glory of God.
