Q&A with Community Christian School multi-sport athlete Destiny Downing — Presented by RibCrib

VYPE: Who has been your favorite coach throughout your career and how did they impact you as a player?

Destiny Downing: Coach Downing. She pushed to fight for what I want, which made me a hard worker.

VYPE: Did you have any teammates that you admire or that supported you?

DD: Carter Craig was awesome when I was first learning how to hurdle and my sister, Trinity, always keeps me competitive in everything.

VYPE: Who was your favorite teacher and how were they influential in your life?

DD: Mrs. Bell is an awesome teacher. She’s got a good sense of humor and someone I can count on for solid advice.

VYPE: What preparation have you taken this off-season to better equip yourself for the upcoming season?

DD: I play positions in volleyball and basketball that are heavy on jumping and run sprints on our football field and lift legs in my free time after practices.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

DD: High Jump is a very mental event. You can’t have any doubt or hesitation in your jump, but it’s super easy to get in your head. I’ve learned how to have more control over my thoughts and to not overthink things.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory in your sport?

DD: Winning state was amazing, but making 5-6 my new PR was the huge moment for me.

VYPE: What do you hope to accomplish this season (individual or team goals)?

DD: My goals are to beat the 3A record of 5-8, the state record 5-10 and jump my personal goal of 6-0.

VYPE: What are your plans after high school?

DD: I hope to go to law school to become a prosecutor then adopt a few kids.
