Westmoore’s Ana Chavez – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Premier Healthcare

Ana Chavez
Westmoore Volleyball
It’s a busy time of the year for volleyball players statewide. The start of a new season
coupled with the start of schools keeps everyone busy, including Westmoore High School’s
Ana Chavez. Now a junior, Chavez is involved in National Honor Society as well.
“Westmoore High School is a great place to be a student-athlete because of the support and
community that surrounds you as well as playing a sport at level 6A. What I’ve enjoyed
most about being on the volleyball team is the chemistry. Everyone gets along so well and
encourages each other but also competes and challenges each other,” said Chavez.

Chavez grew up playing several sports, but she gravitated to volleyball and stuck with it.
“What I love most about this group is our determination. We never go down without a fight
and always keep pushing ourselves and each other. When I look at the upcoming season,
I’m most excited about state. Making a run at the state championship is our team’s main
goal. With this group of girls, I think we control our own outcome and I truly believe we can
do it,” said Chavez.
The junior was excited to talk about her teammates and their contributions to the team.
“A couple of my teammates you should keep an eye on this season are Olivia Branum,
Gracelyn Skaggs, Jaycie Daggs, and Sadie Arnold. I want my class to be remembered for its
leadership, service, and discipline. I think discipline is so important not only individually
but also as a team. Leadership is significant because if you don’t have a leader then
everyone is kind of on their own which can be detrimental for teams,” said Chavez.
When her playing days come to an end at Westmoore High, Chavez said she would like to
attend college.
“My favorite subject in school right now is math. All the math teachers at Westmoore make
it really fun. As of right now I plan on majoring in dentistry because I want to be a pediatric
dentist. I’ve always loved working with children,” said Chavez.
