John Marshall ended an eight game losing streak to Heritage Hall on October 18th, with a 14-12 win. The two schools are located just 3.4 miles apart.

OFFENSE

Head coach of the John Marshall Bears, Jeff Horrocks, thinks even though last year’s team may look better on paper, this year’s team will play at a level that will win them more games. On offense, the Bears bring back three returning starters from last year’s team. Quarterback Kane Donovan (6-3, 170, Sr.) is a second year starter for the Bears and has big expectations from Horrocks and his staff. “Kane has all the intangibles you want as your QB. He has the ability to be one of the top QB’s in the state and I anticipate him having a big year,” Horrocks said. Also returning for the Bears are wide receivers Dorien Middleton (5-10, 160, Jr.) and Je’Sean Jackson (6-0, 170, Sr.) who each had over 200 yards and scored 5 touchdowns combined. After limited minutes in 2020, running back Devin Jones (5-9, 165, Sr.) looks to have a big senior year. The Bears will look to run a fast tempo spread offense, taking and adjusting to whatever the defense gives them. 

DEFENSE

On defense, the Bears return nine starters. After a breakout junior season, linebacker Charles Carter (6-1, 220, Sr.) looks to add to his resume in 2021. “He is one of the top linebackers in the state and with his role expanding this season, I expect him gaining a lot of attention from colleges,” Horrocks said. Alongside Carter is linebacker Shane Richard   (6-0, 190, Sr.). Richard recorded 60 total tackles, four tackles for a loss, two passes broken up, a forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries. The Bears won’t be short-handed at the linebacker position with Carter and Richard on the field. At defensive end, Crayden Sandersfield (6-2, 190, Jr.) and Tango McCauley (6-1, 240, Jr.) look to take big strides going into 2021. Combining for over 35 total tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, and two fumble recoveries, expect these two players to have a big 2021 season. Davien Taylor (6-2, 175, So.) has high hopes after a successful freshman season for the Bears. “Being in his second year playing at the varsity level, Davien has everything you want in a player,” Horrocks said. Taylor has the potential to be a big time prospect by his senior year. Anthony Reyes (6-0, 350, Sr.) plays on the line, and expects to add to his 26 tackles and five tackles for a loss from last season.
