9 Q’s with Jones’ Riley Smith Presented by Blue & Gold Sausage

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory of playing?

Riley: A favorite memory of mine is definitely winning the Area Championship game last season and punching our ticket to the State Tournament.

VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing your sport?

Riley: I first started playing basketball when I was in Kindergarten, I had a friend who was playing up on a first grade team and wanted to play too. I was pretty excited to be playing with the “big kids”.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?

Riley: My favorite part about being on a team is having that family-like bond and knowing that there is a group of girls who has my back.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?

Riley: Jaelen Maples has definitely left the biggest impression on me. She showed me what it took to be a good leader and teammate.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Riley: One thing that basketball has taught me is that good things come to those who put in the work.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

Riley: My favorite part about representing Jones as an athlete is being a part of something greater than myself. We have several coaches that always say, “Protect the brand.” And the fact that I get the opportunity to put on a jersey that says Jones across the front means that I get to protect the brand.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Riley: Some of the best advice I’ve ever received is that everyone has a role and every role is important. On a team, in any sort of relationship, a job everyone has a role to fulfill that makes everything work and the sooner you know and accept your role the better off you’ll be.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?

Riley: I would go anywhere with white sand beaches and I would bring my family and my dogs.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Riley: I would like to give a shout out to my mom and dad for always being there and supporting me in whatever activities I had the desire to do. They have always been my biggest fans and I am so grateful for them.
