9 Questions with Mid-Del’s Steven Anderson Presented by Shelter Insurance / Tom Kilburn

VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?

Steven: Because it’s my life. I have one main goal and that is to play basketball at the highest level possible. My father also played basketball and he’s inspired me and kept me passionate to keep going at the sport that I love.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?

Steven: My favorite teacher would be Ms. Johnson, my sophomore Geometry teacher. She has a great spirit and loves to teach and get to work. She is willing to help me and others around me to make sure they are coming home with good grades, so I’m very thankful I have a teacher like her.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

Steven: Representing my school as a student and player means a lot to me. Carl Albert is held to a very high standard and we’re gonna keep it that way. I love that I can be a part of that and represent my basketball team and school to the highest standard I can.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?

Steven: Bora Bora, that’s my dream. I would love to go there someday and have so much fun and see the different cultures and different people and how they live. I would take my family and friends most definitely. I would want everyone close to me to have the same experience as me so I would love for all of them to come with me.

VYPE: What is your all-time favorite meal?

Steven: The favorite meal has to be the Sweet and Spicy Bacon Burger from Whataburger, so shout out Whataburger. You have to make sure there’s no onions and no pickles on it though because that’ll make it nasty and I hate both of them. That burger is the best burger I’ve ever had in my life

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?

Steven: Jordan England, he was a senior last year playing for Carl Albert. He is one of the best guys I’ve met in my basketball career. He’s a leader, he’s passionate, and a great person to be around all the time. He took me under his wing my freshman year and I’ll forever thank him for that and making me a better person all around.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Steven: Keep a positive mindset, because without a good mindset everything could go downhill super fast and you wouldn’t even know it. I’ve been at points where I had to make sure I really wanted to continue to play the game I love. Your mind is the strongest thing in the game.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Steven: Accountability 100%, every decision I make impacts the team, similar to how my choices in life affect others around me. Accountability can take you a long way and help you become a better person on and off the court. Regardless of the situation, accountability can take you a long way.

VYPE: Who inspires you?
Steven: My Father and Mother. They’ve been there since day one and I look up to them all the time. They are great supporters and guide me also to make sure I’m in the right positions in life and on the court. They can be hard on me sometimes but I also learned to listen to what they are saying and not how they are saying it. I love them with all my heart and I thank them.
