Del City’s Jaikia Johnson, One Tough Runner – Presented by RibCrib

Jaikia Johnson

Del City High School

The Del City girls track team will be tough to beat this season thanks to runners like Jaikia Johnson.

Johnson is a relay specialist and has been at her craft for several years.

“I’ve been running track for five years. This season I will be participating in the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400, and in every meet my coach have me alternate between the 100, 200, and 400,” said Johnson.

Track and classroom work is Johnson’s focus. As a student-athlete, Johnson said she enjoys the relationships she has built at Del City High School.

“Being a student-athlete going to Del City, I mostly enjoy the family relationship, going by CDEPT and the coaching staff,” said Johnson.

There is one influence in her life that keeps her grounded and gives her the strength to push through any adversity.

“God has really been a big influence in my life. Without him I wouldn’t be where I am now,” said Johnson.

In her free time, Johnson said she likes to go to the track and put in some extra work. Once she adds graduate to her name, Johnson said she plans to attend college and pursue a degree.

When asked about the team and who was the toughest runner, who is the funniest teammate and who is the most serious, Johnsons was quick to answer.

“On are team besides me, Lyric Coleman is the toughest. Taylor Moore is definitely the funniest. The most serious on the team is Jayliah Jones,” said Johnson.
