As is becomes more challenging to separate yourself from others in a competitive job market like Oklahoma City, you must have a resume that speaks for itself. That’s exactly what Trenton Smith has done as a student at Southern Nazarene University.
Once football season comes to a close, Smith plans to take his talents to Physical Therapy Central where his master’s degree in Exercise Science from SNU will allow him to bring a wealth of knowledge to the job.
“The degree in Exercise Science of Human Performance will help me with my pursuit of attaining a DPT degree by expanding my exposure to knowledge within the field of science and health care. It has provided me with additional perspectives of what it means to be a true health care provider,” said Smith.
Smith said SNU was the first and only choice for him when he committed to pursuing his master’s degree.
“Southern Nazarene emphasizes the values of collaboration, inclusivity, and stewardship through the communal leadership of professors and student groups throughout campus. This inviting atmosphere created a familial environment that gave me comfort and the confidence to pursue my goals. SNU allowed me to develop my knowledge of Physical Therapy through their undergraduate Pre-PT Program,” said Smith. “The close-knit family I developed during these undergrad years provided me with incentive to further my academic career by obtaining a master’s degree. The pursuit of this master’s degree in Exercise Science of Human Performance was the right choice since it allowed me to further my knowledge and complete the remaining years of eligibility for football that were left from the disruption of COVID-19.”
SNU is a home-away-from-home for Smith.
“I have enjoyed the life-long friendships that have been created during my time at SNU the most. The exposure to diverse groups of people at SNU has gifted me classmates and teammates from around the country that I can depend on and be my true self,” Smith said. “I would advise other adults who are contemplating this decision to treasure the relationships they make throughout their education journey. The degree and the education will always be available but the relationships and bonds we make along the way are irreplaceable.”
Away from school and work, Smith said he enjoys playing football, drawing, reading, watching movies, and binging anime series.
